As we step into 2026, we’re proud to reflect on a pivotal year for SEA2SEE — a European project bringing together 14 partners committed to fostering a more transparent and trustworthy seafood sector in Europe.
At Tilkal, we’re contributing the traceability technology backbone behind the project, supporting how data is captured, verified, analysed, and shared across seafood value chains with the objective to bring auditability, control and transparency to the seafood sector
Over the past year, the project reached an important milestone with its second review meeting, confirming strong progress across scientific, technological and societal dimensions. SEA2SEE continues to advance steadily, while reinforcing collaboration and shared learning among partners.
A major achievement has been the consolidation of five real-world demonstration case studies — spanning aquaculture sites in Greece, Spain and Portugal and small-scale fisheries in the Algarve. These environments have allowed SEA2SEE technologies to be tested and refined under real operational conditions, generating valuable insights into seafood production, distribution and traceability.

The project’s technological ecosystem has now taken shape, bringing together blockchain-enabled traceability, data integration tools, and professional and consumer-facing applications. Designed with usability and interoperability in mind, this platform provides a strong foundation for long-term adoption beyond the project itself.

Importantly, the solutions developed within SEA2SEE also represent a concrete opportunity for future users to respond more effectively to evolving regulatory requirements. By enhancing visibility, data reliability and transparency across seafood value chains, the platform helps organisations prepare for compliance — without making regulation the driver of innovation.
With six months remaining until the project’s conclusion in June 2026, we’re entering a phase of acceleration and integration, focused on real-world alignment and post-project uptake.
Thank you to all SEA2SEE partners and contributors for their commitment. Together, we’re building lasting foundations for transparency and trust in Europe’s seafood sector. Would you like to follow our progress and discover other traceability use cases? Subscribe to our newsletter today!
