SOLUTION · DIGITAL BATTERY PASSPORT (DBP) · EU BATTERY REGULATION
Produce your Digital Battery Passport for the EU Battery Regulation
Mandatory from 18 February 2027.
The EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542) requires a Digital Battery Passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027. Tilkal helps battery manufacturers and distributors structure, produce and publish theirs, on the same DPP Studio used for every Digital Product Passport.

Which batteries are covered, and by when
The regulation treats battery categories differently. Not every obligation applies to every battery, and not every battery needs a passport.
Passport required · Feb 2027
Electric vehicle (EV) batteries
In scope for the Digital Battery Passport from 18 February 2027, alongside carbon footprint declaration and, later, minimum recycled content.
Passport required · Feb 2027
Light means of transport (LMT)
E-bikes, e-scooters and similar vehicles. In scope for the Digital Battery Passport from 18 February 2027.
Passport required · Feb 2027
Industrial batteries above 2 kWh
Including stationary energy storage systems. In scope for the Digital Battery Passport from 18 February 2027.
No passport yet
Portable & SLI batteries
Not yet required to carry a passport, but already subject to labelling, collection marking and, for portable batteries, removability rules from the same date.
Industries this reaches today: automotive and EV manufacturing, energy storage and industrial equipment, e-mobility (e-bikes, scooters, light vehicles), and, through labelling and due diligence obligations that apply more broadly, consumer electronics, power tools and retailers placing battery-powered products on the EU market.
What a Digital Battery Passport has to include
The regulation groups passport data into several themes, each with its own audience. In practice, that means structuring the passport, block by block, around who needs to see what:
Product information
Battery category, serial number, manufacturing date, chemistry and status (new, repurposed, second life).
PUBLIC, OR LEGITIMATE INTEREST
Manufacturer information
Company identity, address, contact and commercial warranty.
PUBLIC, BY DEFAULT
Technical characteristics
Beginning-of-life energy, rated capacity, voltage and operating conditions.
GENERALLY PUBLIC
Documents
Labels and markings, due diligence report, test reports, carbon footprint study, recycled content study.
PUBLIC, OR AUTHORITIES
Safety & sustainability
Hazardous substances, extinguishing agents, waste management, critical raw materials, renewable content, dismantling guide and specific safety measures
PUBLIC OR LEGITIMATE INTEREST
Access that matches who's asking
The regulation defines who can see what: the public, parties with a legitimate interest (repairers, remanufacturers, recyclers, second-life operators, professional customers), and authorities (notified bodies, market surveillance).
Tilkal's role-based access control applies these levels block by block, field by field, so each audience sees only what it's entitled to.
Produce your Digital Battery Passport with Tilkal
Digital Battery Passports are produced with the same DPP Studio used for every Tilkal Digital Product Passport. For battery manufacturers and distributors working against the February 2027 deadline, the practical path can be phased:
DPP QUICK START
Start now, with the data you have
Use DPP Quick Start to load passport data from the Excel files you already hold, structure it against the regulation's content blocks, and publish passports for your priority battery categories ahead of the deadline.
DPP ENTERPRISE
Scale without rebuilding
Move to DPP Enterprise when you're ready to connect passports to your own systems through the Supply Chain Data Hub, across every division, site and battery model. The data already declared in DPP Studio is migrated by Tilkal. Nothing is rebuilt.

Industrial battery manufacturer
A multi-division manufacturer building Digital Battery Passports across industrial, LMT and EV categories, from DPP Quick Start toward a Data Hub-connected DPP Enterprise rollout, covering the full passport lifecycle from creation to second life.
Multi-sector retail purchasing entity
The purchasing arm of a large multi-sector retailer, deploying a Digital Battery Passport for products such as small household appliances and DIY equipment, from battery traceability through to DPP generation.
With DPP Enterprise, everything else connects too
DPP Quick Start works from the data you already hold. As your program scales to DPP Enterprise, your Digital Battery Passport connects to the rest of the data and evidence the regulation needs, through the Supply Chain Data Hub:
Collect battery and raw material data from your own systems, suppliers and upstream sources, whatever their digital maturity.
Collect and validate the conformity certificates, test reports and due diligence evidence a notified body or authority may ask for.
Trace cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite back through the chain to support due diligence and recycled content claims.
